The demand and supply of used cars in Portugal increased in the first half of 2016.
According to data from Standvirtual, the leading classifieds portal in the automobile sector, in the first half of 2016, the demand and supply of used cars increased by 9.6% and 11.9%, respectively, compared to the same period of the previous year. In total, more than 250,000 cars were registered for sale during the first six months of the year. The average price of used cars increased by 24% – the average value of a car in the first half of 2015 was 9,861 euros and in the same period, in 2016, it was 12,254 euros.Eco-friendly cars have been gaining more and more ground in the market, with the demand for hybrid cars growing 87.1% and electric cars registering an increase in research of around 86.1% when compared to the first half of 2015.

As for the cars most sought after by the Portuguese, the podium is in charge of three German models. BMW 320d, Volkswagen Golf and Mercedes-Benz C-220 were, respectively, the three most researched models during this period. The models that registered the highest number of advertisements for sale were the Renault Clio, the Volkswagen Golf and the BMW 320d.
