Cold Start. That's how ABS was tested on buses and trucks

The electronic anti-lock braking system, aka ABS , was first introduced in a production car 40 years ago. The honor went to the Mercedes-Benz S-Class (W116), not least because it was the German brand in collaboration with Bosch that developed the system.

But it didn't stop with light cars. Mercedes-Benz has also applied the technology to its buses and lorries, which were fitted as standard with these systems in 1987 and 1991 respectively.

Naturally, before being introduced in their “heavy-weight” vehicles, they had to go through a development and testing phase, which we can see in the video we bring you today.

And sometimes the tests take on more dramatic and spectacular contours, with buses and trucks being pushed to the limit on low-grip and mixed surfaces.

The various 360s carried out by the bus are quite gut-wrenching… All in the name of our safety!
