Think you're looking at a Mercedes-Benz 190E Evo? See better...

The difficulty of merging two cars as far apart in time as one Mercedes-Benz 190E from 1985 with a C63 AMG (W204) of 2010, turns out to be the starting year of this project, which started in 2013.

But five years later, you can't question the results — they're just brilliant. Designed by North American Piper Motorsport, the so-called Frankenstein Benz, basically boils down to fitting a bodywork of a 190E 2.3 on a chassis and mechanics of an AMG C63 (W204) — with the fantastic atmospheric V8 of 6.2 l.

Like some more radical restomod projects, it combines the best of both worlds, the look of cars from the past with modern components.

The C63 was completely stripped of all its components — engine, transmission, brakes, interior, etc... — with the 190E bodywork being placed on top of it, followed by reinstallation of all components. This also forced some of them to be repositioned, especially in the engine compartment, such as oil radiators, air conditioning, or the central brake pump.

But the work didn't stop there, with Piper Motorsport altering the styling of the 190E to get closer to the exuberant 190E Evo, as can be seen in the wheel arch enlargements, the front spoiler or the presence of a generous rear wing. Also the interior, inherited from the C63, needed some work to be perfectly integrated into the more compact bodywork of the 190E.

There were no advanced performance data, but it will certainly, at least, coincide with those of the C63 itself, with more than 450 hp naturally aspirated allowing it to reach 100 km/h in 4.4s. Unthinkable performance for the original 190E Evo, equipped with a 2.5 l inline four cylinder and outputs of 195 hp (Evo) and 235 hp (Evo II). Finally, the exaggerated and justified style of the Evo — necessary for DTM homologation purposes — finds a parallel in the performance achieved!
