Mazda6. New generation gets turbo gasoline engine... in the USA.

The next Los Angeles Motor Show will be the stage for a revised Mazda6 from top to bottom. As with the latest CX-5, the new Mazda6 is expected to maintain the platform of the current one, but the bodywork and interior will be substantially updated, and promises to gain new equipment and even powertrains.

Of course, the new style stands out. The Japanese brand has revealed, for now, only two images, which show a little of the exterior and interior, and the influence of the new CX-5 is clear. Like the SUV, the aim is to present a more sophisticated, mature and solid aesthetic.

Among the new features, i-AVTIVSENSE, the set of security technologies, is reinforced. The MRCC (Mazda Radar Cruise Control) is now able to completely immobilize the vehicle, putting it back in motion as soon as the car in front moves forward; and receives the brand's latest generation of 360º View Monitor monitoring.

Engine news… for the US

We still have to wait a little longer to get to know the renewed Mazda6 destined for Europe and the engines that will be part of it. With a presentation at the Salon de Los Angeles, the mechanical innovations are intended, for now, only for the American market.

In the US, the Mazda6 is available with a single engine. This is the 2.5 liter SKYACTIV-G, four inline cylinders, naturally aspirated, with 186 hp. The novelty involves the addition of a cylinder deactivation system, which smoothly and uninterruptedly switches the operation between two and four cylinders. Thanks to the new system, fuel economy in real conditions will improve, according to the brand.

Absolute novelty is the introduction of the SKYACTIV-G 2.5T, Mazda's only turbocharged engine (not counting Diesels), debuted by the CX-9, the seven-seater SUV that is sold almost exclusively in the North American market. There were no advanced specs on this engine, so it is assumed that it maintains the same 250 hp as the CX-9.

The other Mazda in Los Angeles

Mazda will also take the acclaimed VISION COUPE , the concept that debuted at the last Tokyo Motor Show; the RT24-P, competition prototype; and finally the MX-5 “Halfie”, which consists of a fusion between a competition and production car.

The Los Angeles Salon opens on December 1st.
