After having seen the Civic Type R lose the fastest front-wheel drive title at Suzuka to the Renault Mégane R.S. Trophy-R, Honda “returned the load” and with the Honda Civic Type R Limited Edition won back the record.
In total, the Civic Type R Limited Edition took only 2min 23.993s to cover the Japanese circuit, in other words, he was around 1.5s faster than his French rival.
To break the record, Honda resorted to a development model, yet the Japanese brand claims that it has the same specifications as the production model.

With only 100 copies destined for the European market, the Civic Type R Limited Edition is described by Honda itself as “the most radical Type R ever”.

About 47 kg lighter than the “normal” Civic Type R, the Civic Type R Limited Edition forgoes “luxuries” such as the infotainment system, the air conditioning and even the sound insulation material.
Also in the weight saving chapter, the Honda Civic Type R Limited Edition has 20” BBS wheels that allowed it to save 10 kg in unsprung masses.
The Civic Type R Limited Edition has recently and again held the record for fastest front-wheel drive at Suzuka.
Finally, the suspension (modified shock absorbers) and steering were also revised to cope with the loss of mass and the new rim/tire set. And, truth be told, this new record seems to prove that all the work was worth it.
