Abarth 695 Biposto: the scorpion strikes again!

Anonim

The scorpion brand presented in Geneva the Abarth 695 Biposto, a demonic version of the friendly Fiat 500.

Those who know the history of Abarth in greater detail, know that nomenclature 695 suggests something from the most «radical» imagination of the house of Turin. We have to go back to 1964 to find the Fiat Abarth 695 SS, one of the wildest versions the Italian brand has ever produced.

And now, 50 years later, at the Geneva Motor Show, the brand has revealed its successor: the Abarth 695 Biposto. Basically, a modern re-edition of one of the machines of the past of Italian origin, the most emblematic ever. As you can see from the images, the Abarth 695 Biposto is a legitimate heir to the 695 acronym.

The Abarth 695 Biposto is an extreme car, and makes a point of making it clear: I'm not a Fiat 500! The aerodynamic props or the low tone that the exhaust system developed by Akrapovic produces, make one guess a car full of desire to leave black marks on the tarmac! And it's not just will, there's substance. This small Italian rocket is the most powerful road car Abarth has ever produced. The 1.4 T-jet engine gives the necessary life to the tiny but competent chassis, with 190 hp of power and 250 Nm of maximum torque. The Abarth 695 Biposto is thus catapulted to 100 km/h in just 5.9 seconds and reaches a top speed of 230 km/h.

Despite the interesting technical specifications, this model is much more than a simple vitamin Abarth. As the English say “this is the real deal”! This model is one of the closest production cars to a racing car that money can buy. A kind of Porsche 911 GT3 RS in scale, power, size, performance and… price!

But let's see: the polycarbonate windows are fixed, with only a small horizontal sliding window; the speedometer and tachometer were replaced by a digital data logger, courtesy of AIM; in the place where the rear seats used to be is a titanium roll-bar to which Sabelt four-point red seat belts are attached. And then (much later…) there is something that resembles a sculpture whose objective is to change changes, a work by Bacci Romano.

The result of all these improvements is a car full of race, with a total weight of 997kg, which greatly contributes to the reasonable consumption of 6.5L/100km and emissions in the region of 155g of CO2/km. Numbers that certainly do not occupy the minds of those who want to acquire, for a price that is estimated to be quite high.
