Volkswagen T-Cross. Everything we already know and new images

At an event that took place in the outskirts of Munich, Volkswagen gathered several prototypes of the T-Cross and revealed the first details, images and video of the “Polo SUV”.

While we do not have the opportunity to conduct the Volkswagen T-Cross , we've condensed in this article everything that is already known about the small SUV.

What is it?

The Volkswagen T-Cross is Volkswagen's fifth SUV in Europe and ranks below the “Portuguese SUV”, the T-Roc. It uses the same platform as the Volkswagen Polo, the MQB A0 and will be the access model for the Volkswagen SUV range, entering one of the hottest segments of the market.

The T-Cross extends Volkswagen's SUV family to the compact segment. The T-Cross is important for the small model range because it acts as the entry-level SUV for the younger age group.

Outside, we'll find a compact car (4.10 m long) designed for the city, but with a more irreverent style than the Volkswagen Polo. According to Klaus Bischoff, Design Director at Volkswagen, the objective was to build an SUV that would not go unnoticed in traffic. The prominent grille – à la Touareg – and the large wheels, with 18″ wheels, stand out.

The higher driving position remains one of the SUV's favorite features, and one of the reasons for its success, with the Volkswagen T-Cross being 11 cm higher than what can be found in the Polo.

When we design an SUV we want it to look like it can conquer any road on the planet. Independent, masculine and powerful. Those are all the attributes T-Cross has.

What have?

Abundant space and versatility, without a doubt. The new T-Cross comes equipped with sliding seats, with a maximum longitudinal adjustment of 15 cm, which in turn is reflected in the luggage compartment capacity, with capacity ranging from 380 to 455 l — by folding the seats, the capacity rises to 1281 l.

With digital conquering more and more ground in the interior of cars, the T-Cross will also have a wide offer in this regard. The infotainment system uses a touchscreen with 6.5″ as standard, which can be optionally up to 8″. Complementing it will also be optionally available a fully digital instrument panel (Active Info Display) with 10.25″.

When it comes to driving assistants and safety equipment, expect to find a system Front Assist with city emergency braking and pedestrian detection , lane maintenance alert and proactive passenger protection system — if the array of sensors detects a high risk of an accident, it will automatically close the windows and sunroof, and tension the seat belts, better retaining the front occupants .

Like the Polo, the Volkswagen T-Cross will focus heavily on interior customization, with different colors to choose from. There will also be four USB ports and wireless charging for mobile phone, and a Beats sound system with 300W and subwoofer.

The T-Cross will have five trim levels, 12 exterior colors to choose from, and like the T-Roc, it will also be available with two-tone options.

Now that we are adding the T-Cross to the SUV family, we will have the right SUV for every type of customer. Your target customers are the youngest, with comparatively smaller incomes.

In terms of engines, three petrol and one diesel engines are planned. On the gasoline side we will have the 1.0 TSI — with two variants, 95 and 115 hp — and the 1.5 TSI with 150 hp. The only Diesel proposal will be guaranteed by the 1.6 TDI of 95 hp.

How much does it cost?

It's still too early to talk about prices, as Volkswagen T-Cross only arrives in May 2019 . But we can expect entry prices to start at 20,000 euros, slightly higher than the Volkswagen Polo.
