GTI. A magical acronym with just three letters, long associated with the sportier versions of the Volkswagen range. An acronym that now reaches the 7th generation of the Volkswagen Polo.
For the first time in the history of this model, the Volkswagen Polo GTI (Gran Turismo Injection) reaches the mark of 200 hp of power — stretching the difference to the first generation Polo GTI to 80 hp.
With the help of a six-speed DSG gearbox, the new Volkswagen Polo GTI reaches 100 km/h in 6.7 seconds and a top speed of 237 km/h.
At a time when many sports cars resort to engines whose displacement does not exceed 1,600 cc, Volkswagen took the opposite path and went to "borrow" the 2.0 TSI engine from its "big brother", the Golf GTI. Power has been reduced to the aforementioned 200 hp and maximum torque is now 320 Nm — all so as not to cause hierarchical problems within the GTI family.
On the other hand, and despite the increase in power and displacement compared to the previous generation — which used a 1.8 liter engine with 192 hp — the new Volkswagen Polo GTI announces lower consumption. The advertised average consumption is 5.9 l/100 km.
Golf GTI engine, and not just…
Dynamically, the new Volkswagen Polo GTI has everything to be a good sports car. In addition to the engine, the platform of the new Volkswagen Polo GTI is also shared with the Golf. We're talking about the well-known MQB modular platform — here in version A0 (shortest). Emphasis still on the system of XDS electronic differential lock , as well as for the different driving modes that change the response of the engine, steering, driving aids and adaptive suspensions.
As standard equipment, the Volkswagen Polo GTI has automatic air conditioning, sports seats covered in the typical “Clark” checkered fabric, 17″ alloy wheels with a new design, brake calipers in red, sports suspension, system of Discover Media navigation, front and rear parking sensors, rear camera, Climatronic air conditioning, “Red Velvet” decorative inserts, induction charging and XDS electronic differential. The classic GTI abbreviations, and even the typical red band on the radiator grille, as well as the GTI gear lever grip are also present.
As with other models of the brand, it is possible to opt for the active info display (fully digital instrumentation) and the infotainment system with a glass touch screen.
With regard to driving assistance systems, the new Volkswagen Polo GTI now has a Front Assist assistance system with emergency braking in town and pedestrian detection system, blind spot blind spot sensor, proactive passenger protection, automatic distance adjustment ACC and multi-collision brakes.
The seventh generation Volkswagen Polo is now available for ordering under the acronym GTI, with prices starting at 32 391 euros.
