Meet the man who named the Bugatti Chiron

After the French brand announced the successor to the Veyron, it wasn't easy for the petrolhead community to hold back. Whenever Bugatti launches a car, that car marks an era. There is the before and there is the after. Like it or not, the Bugatti Veyron released in 2005 made history. And before the Veyron, so did its predecessors.

That said, it was natural that we saw all the focuses at the Geneva Motor Show (including ours) aimed at the presentation of the new bugatti chiron . Being such an important car, the name was one of the biggest concerns of the brand. Bugatti ended up choosing the Chiron name in honor of Louis Chiron (1899-1979), Monegasque pilot linked to the French brand in the 20s and 30s.

This was the way that Bugatti managed to recognize and keep alive the name of the one it considers to be “the best driver in its history”, even more in the case of the “most powerful, fastest, most luxurious and exclusive Bugatti in the world” .

From an early age, Louis Chiron nurtured a taste for automobiles, and it was during the interval between World War I and World War II that he gave rise to this passion. He started running for Bugatti at the age of 24. Later, his career will also have passed through the Mercedes-Benz and Alfa Romeo teams.

Already a veteran, Chiron competed in the first Formula 1 race in the inaugural season of the Formula 1 World Championship in 1950. The racing chapter was closed at the age of 58 when he played his last race at the Monaco Grand Prix in 1958, becoming the oldest rider to enter a GP to this day.
