Knowing the popularity of the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution – it was 23 years and 10 generations of a sports car that has ceased to be produced – and its appetite for tuning, there are projects that we cannot fail to share. This is one of them.

The name says it all: Extreme Tuners . This preparer based in Athens, the capital of Greece, has been working on an ambitious project for several months – build the fastest Evo ever.

The guinea pig was a Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution IX. From 2.0 liters of capacity, the DOHC 4G63 engine was upgraded to 1.8 liters, but in return received a turbocharger of epic proportions and a set of other modifications, enough to achieve a sprint in the quarter mile (about 400 meters) in just 7,902 seconds:

As you can see from the video, recorded in May of this year, keeping this Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution IX straight is no easy task: there are more than 1700 hp extracted from a model that debited “only” 280 hp as a series! And according to Extreme Tuners, this engine is capable of reaching 13,000 rpm and has the potential to surpass 2000 hp by a wide margin.

After this acceleration record, Extreme Tuners is preparing to try to overcome the time achieved by the Lancer Evolution IX this weekend, at the Malta Drag Racing Hal Far circuit. Another record on the way?
