BMW X2 sDrive16d on video. Diesel, 116 hp, 3 cylinders and… more than 50 thousand euros

Anonim

This is the BMW X2 less powerful and cheaper than you can buy. The X2 sDrive16d starts at 41 572 euros (Steptronic box), but the unit we tested cost around 52,000 euros — “it's the cheapest of all, but it's not that cheap”, as Guilherme ends up realizing.

A finding already made by us, when we tested the X2 xDrive20d, which, with all its options, amounted to 70 thousand euros — these compact crossovers can get expensive, even very expensive, don't you think?

It's not just an “evil” for the BMW X2; his rivals are not far behind. From the Volvo XC40, to the Jaguar E-Pace, to the more alternative Lexus UX, or the brand new Audi Q3 Sportback — probably the most serious rival to the X2 that we've also driven — they all quickly rise to values capable of making executive saloons blush or seriously sporting.

Interior identical to the X1

What does the BMW X2 sDrive16d get with more than €10,000 worth of extras? Above all, style — the X Performance M package concentrates around half the value of all the options it brings, giving the X2 a sportier look, identical to that of the more powerful versions, topped off by generous 19-inch wheels.

For the cost of this “pro-style” option, you could alternatively move up a step in the hierarchy in the X2 range, opting for the more powerful, faster and more pleasant 18d (2.0 l and 150 hp).

For those who think that the more distinct design of the X2 compared to the X1 brings too many sacrifices in the available space, it couldn't be further from the truth. Rear passengers still have ample space to offer, even at height, and the luggage compartment has enough capacity to carry a… Diogo Teixeira. Visibility is more difficult, due to the reduced height of the glazed area and the positioning and dimension of the pillars.

Are three cylinders and 116 hp enough?

The X2 sDrive16d doesn't look bad, but it doesn't shine either. It has just three cylinders and 1.5 l of capacity and guarantees 116 hp and 270 Nm. The performances are just enough, but the highlight is the consumption, which, with some moderation, is between 4.5-5.0 l/100 km and without major concerns, below 6.0 l/100 km.

The biggest mechanical asset turns out to be the gearbox — with dual clutch and seven speeds — which despite costing more, is preferable to the manual, being much more pleasant to use.

Ultimate… comfortable machine?

The BMW X2, in this version, does not behave badly, far from it, but it is not the most sharp or fun proposal in the segment, as one would expect from a BMW — let Guilherme clarify:

It's not as fun as I expected, (but it is) more comfortable than I expected.

Supported by excellent seats (also optional), the X2 reveals a smoother character than we'd expect — good for longer runs, less good for driving enthusiasts. But also, with only 116 hp, will it make a big difference?
