Come back BMW 3 Series Compact, you're forgiven

Anonim

You may no longer remember, but before the BMW 1 Series came out in 2004, the role of the most compact model in the Bavarian brand's range was in the hands of the BMW 3 Series Compact.

Over two generations, the model based on the Series 3 (a mix of components from the E30 and E36 in the first generation, and a derivative of the E46 in the second) competed with models like the Audi A3 in the premium compact segment, standing out by the fact that rely on rear-wheel drive and only three-door bodywork.

The Russian publication Kolesa.ru gives us a glimpse of what a BMW 3 Series Compact would look like today, at a time when BMW's more compact models are “all ahead”.

What would change?

As in the past, the platform would be the same as the contemporary 3 Series, keeping the wheelbase and the long hood under which the engine remains in a longitudinal position.

Therefore, the big difference comes in the rear section, where the rear is shortened, but retains the rear optics of the sedan variant.

At the front, and contrary to what happened with the second generation of the BMW 3 Series Compact, the headlamps adopted are identical to the rest of the range.

It would be possible?

Although the renders are even appealing, the truth is that, even taking into account today's market, the probability of having a BMW 3 Series Compact again is practically nil.

Not only does BMW already have a compact model, the 1 Series, but the buyers' preference for SUVs seems to drive away any interest from the Bavarian brand in developing a model of this kind.

And you, do you think the BMW 3 Series Compact should come back? Leave us your opinion in the comments.
