The Renault Mégane RS has been , successively, one of the best front-wheel drive sports cars on the market.
Due to this heritage, the expectation for this new generation was not high, it was very high. Fortunately, Renault didn't disappoint, apparently – closing remarks only after we've driven it.
The engine
We had to wait until the Frankfurt Motor Show to find out the technical specifications of the new Renault Mégane RS.
As we had already advanced, the chosen engine is the same as the Alpine A110: a 1.8 turbo block with direct injection, which in the French “hot hatch” is capable of developing 280 hp of power.
In December, the Trophy version will be announced, which will reach 300 hp using the same engine.
As for accelerations and top speed, there are still no numbers. We'll have to wait until… that's right: December. Thank you Renault…
But it is worth remembering that the Renault Mégane RS lineage never stood out for its power. It stood out for its dynamics.
Chassis with "all sauces"
As expected, Renault Sport used the services of the 4Control system on the chassis of the new Mégane RS.
In addition to the most varied adjustments that the gentlemen of Renault Sport operated on the chassis, the main highlight is this directional rear axle system.
Additionally, two chassis setups will be available: Cup and Sport . The first is sportier, the second puts greater emphasis on stability. Practical result? The new Renault Mégane RS risks being the most dynamic generation in the history of the French hot hatch.
Manual or automatic?
The people asked, Renault agreed. The new Renault Mégane RS is available with a dual-clutch gearbox or a six-speed manual gearbox. Effectiveness or fun? It's up to you to choose.
Now you just have to wait for the orders to open, which should happen somewhere in the beginning of 2018.
