The BMW 5 Series Touring (G31) took center stage at the BMW stand in Geneva. We got to know the qualities of the Bavarian van, inside and out.

As you'd expect, the Touring version doesn't reveal anything truly new, apart from the space and versatility compared to the saloon version.

Luggage capacity is now 570 liters (rising to 1,700 liters with the rear seats folded down) and supports an additional 120 kg of cargo. Speaking of the luggage compartment, the opening and closing of the tailgate can be done automatically (hands free).

Like the saloon, BMW's executive van is also based on the new CLAR platform, and therefore benefits from all the improvements we already know: stiffer suspension and a weight reduction of close to 100 kg (depending on the engine).

The BMW 5 Series Touring maintains the overall look of the 5 Series (G30): wider front section, new bumpers, redesigned luminous signature. The difference lies, of course, in the design of the rear volume.

Geneva is heating up with the world premiere of the all-new BMW 5 Series Touring. Stay tuned for more highlights. #BMWGIMS

Inside, with the exception of the additional space for occupants and luggage, everything remains the same. The Remote 3D View system stands out, which allows the driver to view the surrounding area of the vehicle through a mobile application, among others.

As for powertrains, the Series 5 Touring (G31) is available in four versions: 530i with 252 hp and 350 Nm, 540i with 340 hp and 450 Nm, 520d with 190 hp of power and 400 Nm of torque, and finally the 530d with 265 hp and 620 Nm.

All versions are equipped with an eight-speed Steptronic transmission, while the xDrive all-wheel drive system is only available in the 540i and 530d versions.

In terms of performance, the 540i version is where the Series 5 Touring is best expressed. Acceleration from 0-100 km/h is achieved in 5.1 seconds (0.3 seconds more than the limousine), before reaching 250 km/h of maximum speed (electronically limited).

The arrival in European markets should take place in June. As for the M5 Touring, unfortunately BMW has no plans to bet on the sports variant. But Alpina already has a solution for that...
