Another day, another world premiere at the Shanghai Motor Show (there have been many…), which only opens its doors to the public this Friday. Like BMW M4 CS , and after the patents registered at the end of last year, the German brand took the opportunity to apply the nomenclature, which will most likely also be used in the next M2.
We recall that in 2007, BMW made a point of recovering this designation (which dates back to the end of the 60s) with the BMW Concept CS, precisely at the Shanghai Motor Show. It also defined a version of the M3 (e46), which used various components of the most exclusive and extreme M3 CSL.
Returning to the BMW M4 CS, the German sports car fills the "hole" between the BMW M4, equipped with the Competition Package, and the "all-powerful" M4 GTS, geared towards the tracks.
The differences compared to the model below start right under the bonnet. Engineers from BMW's M Performance division have revised the well-known 3.0 liter twin-turbo inline 6-cylinder engine (coupled to a seven-speed M DCT gearbox), which now delivers 10 hp more than the M4 with Competition Package, for a total of 460 hp of power.

This value allows lowering the 4 second barrier in the sprint from 0 to 100 km/h - 3.9 seconds – while the top speed is electronically limited to 280 km/h. According to BMW, the M4 CS managed a time of 7 minutes and 38 seconds on its return to the Nürburgring Nordschleife, during the brand's dynamic tests.
Speaking of dynamics, the BMW M4 CS uses aluminum suspension elements on both axles and the Adaptive M suspension as standard with its own tuning, for better performance both on the road and on the circuit. As for weight, all aerodynamic appendages are made with carbon fiber reinforced plastics, a solution that contributes to a 32 kg diet compared to the standard M4.
For now, it is not known how many units will leave the Munich factory, but it is certain that the BMW M4 CS will be a limited production model. The sports car has an advertised price of 116,900 € (for the German market).
