Mercedes-Benz 300SL Gullwing reborn in impressive design

What we have here is a futuristic concept for the successor to the classic Mercedes-Benz 300SL Gullwing. Please note that there are no windshields or side windows…

Matthias Böttcher, industrial designer from Stuttgart, is the creator of this impressive sculpture of the new Mercedes-Benz 300SL Gullwing. The objective was to keep the basic lines from its 1950s predecessor, reconciling them with new futuristic traits.

Devoid of side windows, the only so-called “transparent” part of the car is in the center of the roof, were it not for drivers to feel claustrophobic… We think this idea could go against a future 100% autonomous driving, where the driver will not need to more than seeing the road, depending solely on sensors and cameras to reach your destination. If your idea is to brag behind the wheel of a top of the range car next door with an exhibitionist look… forget it!

In keeping with the 300SL's heritage, notable references to the classic have been carved: short rear, massive fenders and low roof. The absence of a front glass may seem strange, but the design is definitely enough to convince. See here.
