When was the Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren it was one of the fastest cars on the planet. The Bugatti Veyron would only arrive in 2005, and more powerful than the SLR there was little more than the Ferrari Enzo.
17 years later, the 626 hp and 780 Nm extracted from the V8 with 5.4 l and compressor they are still respectable numbers, but they are no longer so uncommon — there are more than many today who pass the 600 hp bar.
Is the Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren still competitive? That's what Carwow tried to find out by making another one of its already typical drag races, confronting the SLR with the Ferrari GTC4Lusso (2016) and the Aston Martin DBS Superleggera (2018).
The Italian comes with an epic atmospheric V12 of 6.5 l, 690 hp and 700 Nm, transmitted to all four wheels via a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox. The Englishman also has a V12 with 5.2 l, but sees added two turbos, for a maximum power of 725 hp and a torque of 900 Nm, transmitted to the rear wheels via an automatic eight-speed gearbox.

It only remains to mention that the Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren is also rear-wheel drive and the gearbox is also automatic… with only five speeds. Let the games begin…
