Mercedes-AMG GT S Roadster. In the middle is virtue?

By identifying the various versions of Mercedes-AMG GT with just one letter, it can be confusing to place them hierarchically in the range. To position ourselves, at the top there is the almighty GT R (not to be confused with the homonymous model from Nissan) with 585 hp; below we have the GT C, with 557 hp; the GT S with 522 hp; and finally, without any letters, the base model, simply GT, with 476 hp.

The Mercedes-AMG GT S is nothing new. It appeared last year, but with only coupé bodywork, so it would be a matter of time before the S was added to the Roadster.

Like every GT, it comes equipped with the 4.0 V8 twin turbo , capable of debiting, as we have already mentioned, 522 hp and 670 Nm between 1900 and 5000 rpm — just 10 Nm less than the GT C. The performance is also quite close to those achieved by the more powerful GT C. The 100 km/h is completed in just 3.8s (+0.1s than the GT C), and the top speed is 308 km/h (-8 km/h than GT C).

GT and GT S. What more differences do they have?

What the Mercedes-AMG GT S doesn't have are the GT C's wider tracks, which ensure an even more muscular appearance. But on the other hand it receives, as a series, multiple improvements compared to the base GT, some inherited from the GT C.

The wheels are now 20″ at the rear, with 295/30 R20 tires — one inch and 10 mm more than on the base GT —; the self-locking differential is now electronically controlled; shock absorbers are now adaptive (AMG RIDE CONTROL) with three modes — Comfort, Sport and Sport+ —; and the composite front discs are bigger, now at 390 mm (+30 mm) — as an option there are carbon discs, larger and 40% lighter.

For an even more focused driving experience, you can opt for the AMG Dynamic Plus package, which adds active engine and transmission mounts, firmer suspension, specific steering and engine adjustments, and a steerable rear axle to boost agility and stability.

As far as the Roadster is concerned, being able to drive with your hair in the wind is one of its advantages. Action that can become even more pleasant, even at low temperatures, since any of the available seats — standard or optional AMG Performance — can come with AIRSCARF, that is, they allow us to keep our necks always warm, when integrating ventilation outlets below the headrest.
