With more than 25,000 units sold on European soil since 2017, the Hyundai i30 N it has now been renovated to ensure it keeps up with the competition and expectations.
As anticipated by the first official images we showed you a few weeks ago, the renovated i30 N has a revised look that matches the style adopted by the other i30s.
At the front, the new LED headlamps with a luminous “V” signature and, of course, the new grille stand out. At the rear, only the hatchback version has new features, receiving new headlights, a more muscular bumper and two larger exhausts.
As for the interior, there we can count on the N Light sports seats which, as the name implies, are 2.2 kg lighter than the standard seats. Also among the options is a 10.25” screen for the infotainment system that is compatible with the Apple CarPlay and Android Auto systems and has the latest generation of the Hyundai Bluelink service.
It's confirmed: it really gained power
In the mechanical chapter, there are two big news: the increase in power in the more radical version equipped with the Performance Package and the fact that this power, for the first time, is associated with an eight-speed double-clutch automatic gearbox, the N DCT.

In both cases the engine remains a 2.0 l four-cylinder turbocharger. In the base version it delivers 250 hp and 353 Nm, and is exclusively associated with a six-speed manual gearbox.
On the Hyundai i30 N with the Performance Package, the power rises to 280 hp and 392 Nm, an increase of 5 hp and 39 Nm compared to its predecessor. As we told you, when equipped with the Performance Package the i30 N can count on a six-speed manual gearbox or the eight-speed N DCT dual-clutch automatic gearbox.
As has been the case until now, maximum torque is available between 1950 and 4600 rpm while maximum power is still achieved at 5200 rpm.
In terms of performance, in both cases the maximum speed is 250 km/h, and when equipped with the Performance Package, the renewed i30 N fulfills 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.9s (less 0.2s than in the past).
New box brings new functions
With the new N DCT box three new functions also appear: N Grin Shift, N Power Shift and N Track Sense Shift.
The first, the “N Grin Shift”, releases the maximum power of the engine and transmission for 20s (a kind of overboost), just by pressing a button on the steering wheel to activate it. The “N Power Shift” function is activated when accelerating with more than 90% throttle load and seeks to transmit maximum torque to the wheels.
Finally, the “N Track Sense Shift” function automatically recognizes when road conditions are ideal for more engaged driving and activates automatically, selecting the correct gear and the exact moment to change gears.
Already common to versions with manual and automatic is the N Grin system. Previously available, it lets you select five driving modes — Eco, Normal, Sport, N and N Custom — that adjust suspension parameters, engine response, driving aids and even the exhaust.
What else does the Performance Package bring?
In addition to more power and the possibility of equipping the i30 N with an unprecedented dual-clutch automatic transmission, the Performance Package brings even more benefits in the dynamic chapter.
This way, those who opt for it will have an electronic limited-slip differential, larger front brake discs (360 mm instead of 345 mm) and 19” wheels equipped with Pirelli P-Zero tires that save 14.4 kg of weight. suspended mass. Added to all this is a revised suspension and steering.
Security on the rise
In addition to taking advantage of this renovation to offer a new look, more power and a new gearbox to the i30 N, Hyundai also decided to reinforce (a lot) the offer of safety equipment.
As a result, the Hyundai i30 N now has systems such as a frontal collision assistant with pedestrian detection or a lane maintenance assistant.
Exclusive to the hatchback variant are the blind spot warning and the rear traffic warning, and in both cases, when the i30 N is equipped with the NDCT box, these systems even manage to avoid a collision.
When does it arrive and how much does it cost?
With arrival on the European market scheduled for the beginning of 2021, the prices of the renewed Hyundai i30 N are not known yet.
