Maserati Ghibli, the mini-Quattroporte

The new Maserati Ghibli is again caught up in testing. Maserati's future luxury saloon will be a shorter version of the attractive Quattroporte.

Here at RazãoAutomóvel, we have been following closely the attempts of Italian brands to return to the German references in the segment of luxury saloons. Today we already announced the possibility of Alfa Romeo returning to the E-segment in 2015. And now we return to the model with which it will eventually share the base: the Maserati Ghibli.

A saloon that will measure just over 4.9 meters, and that will put it on the same level as the sportiest executive saloons on the market, such as the BMW 5 Series and Jaguar XF. Beneath the expectable beautiful Italian design, you'll find the soul: a Ferrari pedigree engine. Among them, a new direct injection bi-turbo V6 engine with more than 400 “ramping horses” capable of generating 550Nm of maximum torque. But for the more sporty, a 3.8l V8 engine with 523hp and 710Nm will also be available. Motorization already used in its older brother Quattroporte.

Its well-camouflaged beauty.

All engines will be equipped with the new ZF 8-speed gearbox, capable of changing gears in less than 200 milliseconds and at the same time reducing consumption by up to 6%. And as Maserati likes its customers to have fun in safety, the new 4-wheel drive system will be available recently on the Quattroporte.

The presentation has not yet been scheduled, but it is expected that it will take place at the Shanghai International Salon, in April.
