Maserati: new compact crossover on the way?

Harald Wester, CEO of Maserati, has already confirmed the intention of the Italian brand to launch five new models by 2015, but according to Car & Driver, a sixth element is yet to come, more precisely, a compact crossover.

Apparently, this crossover will be based on a platform that is still being specially developed for the next generation Jeep Cherokee. And if the rumors are confirmed, Maserati will make available to this model the 3.0-liter bi-turbo V6 engine of the new Quattroporte. Which even makes some sense… Because if the objective of this crossover is to rival Porsche's future crossover, the Porsche Macan, then it will be essential to start this healthy “fight” for technical characteristics.

This model was originally designed to be part of the Alfa Romeo team, with the aim of helping the brand to reaffirm itself in the North American market. However, in favor of Maserati's expansion, Alfa Romeo took a step back and let the trident imprint take the lead in this project. A move that is expected to be more profitable for the Fiat group…
