Peugeot 308. New engines anticipate future emission standards

Anonim

The Peugeot 308 is the first Groupe PSA model to incorporate engines capable of complying with the future Euro 6.2d emission standard, which will only enter into force in 2020. The Euro 6.2d standard already takes into account the results of emissions under real conditions (RDE or Real Driving Emissions) which, in 2020, requires a compliance factor of 1.5. In other words, when tested under real conditions, the measured emissions cannot exceed 1.5 times those recorded on a test bench.

So far, there are three engines in the Peugeot 308, now introduced, capable of achieving these results — one petrol and two diesel. For gasoline we have the 1.2 PureTech 130 hp; Diesel the new 1.5 BlueHDi 130 hp and 2.0 BlueHDi 180 hp.

Both the 1.2 PureTech and 1.5 BlueHDi are mated to a new CVM6 six-speed manual gearbox, which is lighter and as compact as a five-speed; while the 2.0 BlueHDi debuts the EAT8, an unprecedented eight-speed automatic transmission.

1.2 PureTech

The latest version of this direct injection thruster maintains the power and torque values of its predecessor — 130 hp at 5500 rpm and 230 Nm at 1750 rpm — allows reaching 100 km/h in 9.1s (9.4 in SW, the van) and consumption in a mixed circuit is 5.1 l/100 km (5.4 in SW) — a gain in lap 4% compared to the predecessor.

Among the novelties, the 1.2 PureTech gains a gasoline particulate filter (GPF), with a filtration efficiency above 75%; receives new oxygen sensors (lambda probe) capable of guaranteeing an optimized combustion; and a more effective anti-pollution system thanks to superior thermal resistance of materials, optimization of exhaust thermal control and new technologies in the catalyst.

1.5 BlueHDi

Comes with the mission to replace the 1.6 BlueHDi 120 hp, ensuring better performance and consumption. The new four-cylinder block debits 130 hp at 3750 rpm and 300 Nm at 1750 rpm , enough numbers to reach 100 km/h in 9.8s (10s for SW). Compared to the 1.6 BlueHDi, the new 1.5 is more saved between 4 and 6%, translating into average consumption of 3.5 l/100 km (3.7 for SW) and CO2 emissions below 100 g/km.

The new Diesel propellant stands out for its anti-emissions arsenal, which includes a selective reduction catalyst (SCR) and a second generation particulate filter (DPF), placed closer to the engine, thus allowing pre and post actions - faster processing. The presence of the SCR implies the refueling of AdBlue®, with the refueling placed next to the fuel nozzle.

2.0 BlueHDi

It is the most powerful Peugeot 308 Diesel: 180 hp at 3750 rpm and 400 Nm at 2000 rpm, and it is also the fastest, reaching 100 km/h in 8.2s (8.4 for SW). On a mixed circuit, consumption is 4.0 l/100 km (4.3 for s SW), and emissions (with the smaller wheels) are at or below 120 g/km of CO2.

The big highlight is the new eight-speed EAT8 automatic transmission, developed in collaboration with Japan's Aisin, allowing fuel savings of up to 7% compared to the six-speed EAT6 predecessor.

Among the features present, it allows the operation of the Stop & Start system to be extended up to 20 km/h, the automatic activation of Park mode when the engine is switched off and the adaptive cruise control with stop function, which is carried out without any action from the driver.
