First official images of the new Peugeot 308 SW

These are the first official images of the new Peugeot 308 SW, which should be shown live and in color at the Geneva Motor Show to be held during the month of March.

If the predecessor of this new Peugeot 308 SW could hardly be accused of being attractive, it certainly will be easier. Compared to the current one, the new Peugeot 308 SW is longer and lower, thanks to the use of the new platform of the PSA group, the EMP2. Now, the rear volume takes on more classic and consensual contours, and even when compared to the car, the new Peugeot 308 SW presents itself more airy and elegant, a consequence of the addition of a generous third side window that allowed a more C and D pillar narrow.

To the acquired elegance – and which was much anticipated by amateur designer Remco M. – we can add some visual dynamism, quality achieved with the elevation of the base line of the windows when crossing the C pillar. The car, on the other hand, presents itself well heavier and static in setting your rear volume. Pillar C is wide, even too wide, without openings. And it doesn't help the contour of the vertical rear window, which contributes to the perception of something more robust, to be sure, but equally less graceful.

With models in its range like the 5008, the need for Peugeot to have a new Peugeot 308 SW capable of seating 7 people no longer exists, which justifies the new model having only 5 seats, lower height and a flowing roofline more naturally between front and rear, dropping slightly along that path. The current Peugeot 308 SW is taller, and the roof line remains at the same level between front and rear, thus managing to fit the 2 extra passengers in the third row of seats. A practical necessity, no doubt, but destroying any hypothesis of aesthetic appeal.

The rear optics of the new Peugeot 308 SW evolve the theme already seen in the car, and as with the profile of this van, they are more fluid in their contours, gaining elegance and dynamism. Horizontality seems to be the dominant theme in this area, with optics and other lines that unite them extending across the entire width of the van. Contributing to this effect, the lines that make up the license plate's niche, joining the optics at the top and crossing the entire width at the base.

Aimed at families that want an increase in space compared to the conventional Peugeot 308, the new Peugeot 308 SW also offers a total load space of 610 liters. A number that impresses and that results in part from the increase in body length from 4253mm to 4580mm.

As for engines, the engines available in the rest of the range are repeated, including the BlueHDI version which emits only 85g/CO2 per km. The presentation of the new Peugeot 308 SW is scheduled for the Geneva Motor Show and commercialization should start in the second half of the year.
