Volkswagen Polo R with 300hp. Let's repeat... with 300 hp!

The Volkswagen Group is at least "daring" in terms of intentions. The SEAT Leon Cupra R surpassed 300 hp for the first time, the Volkswagen T-Roc was already seen in the R version, the SEAT Arona will have a Cupra version and now the Polo will receive… steroids!

It will be possible?

Of course it's possible. The Polo uses the MQB platform, the same as the Golf, and in the GTI version it already uses the 2.0 TSI engine that we also find in the Golf R — but with less power, of course. As for the 4Motion all-wheel drive system, there's no adaptation problem either.

According to Autocar, Volkswagen already has prototypes rolling to check the validity of the concept. On our part is the warning: they can produce!

Is it wise?

Of course not. With just 10 hp less power but significantly lighter and more compact, the Volkswagen Polo R in this configuration will obliterate the Golf R.

So unless Volkswagen management reviews the project's feasibility on New Year's Eve (a time when everyone wants to get things checked in at work ASAP to go drink champagne and eat raisins), chances are the idea will never get off the paper.

While the decision comes and goes, Volkswagen engineers are having fun behind the wheel of a prototype of the Polo with the Golf R hardware. It's worth thinking about this…
