Falling sales and electrical threat. Renault Mégane's future at risk?

Anonim

Originally released in 1995, the Renault Megane has been one of the best sellers of the Gallic brand. However, not even that can ensure continuity in the range.

The news is being advanced by the British AutoExpress and realizes that Renault's growing investment in electric models could jeopardize the future of the Mégane.

According to AutoExpress, it was Renault's own head of design, Laurens van den Acker, who said that the investment in future generations of the Mégane could be applied in the development of electric models.

Future shaky?

So Laurens van den Acker has said: “inevitably, when we start to have a range of electric models we will have to give up other models, we cannot support the development of all these vehicles at the same time”.

As for the future of the Renault Mégane, the French brand's design director will have declared: “The Mégane is in a segment that is under enormous pressure. We have to invest where the future of the market is”.

The discussion about the future of the Mégane comes at a time when the model's sales have been declining continuously practically since 2010.

To give you an idea, in its best year ever (2004), Mégane sold more than 465,000 units . In 2010 that number dropped to just over 270 thousand and last year it stood at approximately 130 thousand units (source: CarSalesBase).
