Just in time for… autumn. Ferrari removes the hood on the F8 and 812

A great weekend for Ferrari. Not only did he win “his” Italian GP, his second consecutive victory in the championship, but he has just added two new machines, both without fixed roofs, to his growing portfolio of dream machines: Ferrari F8 Spider and Ferrari 812 GTS.

F8 Spider

Half a year after we got to know the F8 Tribute, successor to the 488 GTB and model from which it directly derives, Ferrari unveils the long-awaited convertible version, the Ferrari F8 Spider.

Compared to its predecessor, the 488 Spider, are more 50 hp and less 20 kg in weight — 720 hp and 1400 kg (dry), respectively.

And like its predecessor, the Ferrari has remained faithful to the retractable hardtop, divided into two parts, which, when retracted, is positioned above the engine. Opening or closing the roof doesn't take more than 14s, and we can do it on the move, up to 45 km/h.

The features are virtually identical when compared to the F8 Tributo coupé. The new Ferrari F8 Spider reaches 100 km/h in the same 2.9s (-0.1s in relation to the 488 Spider), but it takes another 0.4s to reach 200 km/h, that is, 8.2s (-0.5s) and reaches the same 340 km/h as the coupé (+15 km/h).

812 GTS

It was 50 years ago that we last saw a production Ferrari convertible with a V12 front engine, the 365 GTS4, better known as the Daytona Spider. We reinforced the “production” argument, because there were four special editions… and limited convertibles of Ferrari cars with a V12 at the front: the 550 Barchetta Pininfarina (2000), the Superamerica (2005), the SA Aperta (2010), and the F60 America (2014).

Ferrari 812 GTS

The new Ferrari 812 GTS it's not limited in production, and happens to be the most powerful roadster on the market — considering the 812 Superfast's recognized ferocity, the 812 GTS also promises to be a visceral experience.

From 812 Superfast gets the epic and sonic Atmospheric V12 of 6.5 l and 800 hp of power reached at a raucous 8500 rpm . The Ferrari 812 GTS promises performance very close to that of the coupé, reflecting the 75 kg more (1600 kg dry) — the 812 GTS, in addition to the new hood and corresponding mechanism, saw the chassis also be reinforced.

It's still absurdly fast. Ferrari declares less than 3.0s to reach 100 km/h, and 8.3s (7.9s in Superfast) for 200 km/h, equaling the Superfast's top speed of 340 km/h.

Walking Losing your hair in the wind is also an easy task, thanks to a hood with features identical to those of the F8 Spider — retractable hardtop, whose opening and closing action takes no longer than 14s, even in motion, up to 45 km/ H.

The addition of a hood forced the 812 GTS to be aerodynamically rethought, especially at the rear, as it lost the conduit above the rear axle of the coupé, gaining a new “blade” in the rear diffuser, compensating for the loss of downforce relative to the coupé.
