THE Fiat S76 is no stranger to Automotive Reason. The Beast of Turin made news when it finally came back to life in 2014, nine years after it was acquired and restored by Duncan Pittaway. A beast conceived with only one goal in mind: set speed records.

And it did, in 1913, albeit unofficially, having reached 213 km/h . Animating it is a block measuring 28 353 cm3 — yes, there are 28.4 l of capacity spread over just four cylinders, and with transmission by… chain. Power: 300 hp.

The Fiat S76 returned to the Goodwood Festival of Speed ​​this year, and as you can see in the videos below, it covered 240 km — from Bristol to the festival — on its own “foot”, ie by road and highway… always spitting fire. Speed ​​to keep up with modern traffic is not lacking.

The Beast of Turin completed the journey without any major hitches, but upon arrival at Goodwood, a problem with its multi-disc clutch — 91 discs (!) — nearly ruined its participation in the Goodwood ramp climb — luckily, everything was resolved in time:
