Doubts, doubts, doubts! Toyota and Gazoo Racing, in this 2020, decided to make life "black" for potential customers of a Japanese sports car.
From the "oven" of the Japanese brand, two very different cars will come out, but with relatively close specifications: the Toyota GR Yaris it's the Toyota GR Supra (four cylinders). Two models born from the same father and mother — read Toyota and Gazoo Racing — with very similar powers but, for the rest, totally different philosophies.
In this video, where the two models appear side-by-side, the following question arose: which one to choose?
No, we haven't lost our "tune". Yes, we're comparing two models that couldn't be more different, but for those looking for high performance and exceptional dynamics — hopefully — the two end up being closer than you think, with the potential to offer these ingredients in expressive quantities.
On one side we have the GR Yaris, equipped with a three-cylinder engine 1.5 Turbo with 261 hp of power to 360 Nm of maximum torque. On the other side is the new GR Supra, equipped with a four-cylinder engine 2.0 Turbo with 258 hp of power to 400 Nm of maximum torque.
Two very different engines, but with very similar performance:
- GR Yaris — 0-100 km/h in less than 5.5s and 230 km/h top speed (electronically limited);
- GR Supra — 0-100 km/h in 5.3s and 250 km/h top speed.
The way in which this power reaches the wheels is also quite different in the two models. The GR Yaris uses a six-speed manual gearbox and an all-wheel drive system, while the GR Supra has an eight-speed automatic gearbox with only rear axle drive — how do you really prefer your sports cars?

Which one will turn the most heads?
Buying a sports car is also a question of style. Neither of the two is lacking in style in this chapter, but once again, the two Toyota models are quite different.
On one side we have a coupé body, on the other side we have a very muscular hatchback. Which one will turn the most heads? We will soon know when the two models arrive in Portugal.
If in terms of body shape there are differences, the same can be said about the weight of each one. The GR Yaris charges 1280 kg on the scale, while the GR Supra charges 1395 kg (100 kg less than the well-known 3.0 Turbo six-cylinder version).
