CUPRA Born skidding on snow before final reveal

THE CUPRA Born , the first all-electric car from the young Spanish brand, is getting closer and closer to its revelation

The announcement to the world will take place at the beginning of next May, but until then CUPRA continues to finalize all the details of this model, which has just been subjected to the extreme conditions of northern Europe, a few kilometers from the Arctic Circle, where had to deal with temperatures of -30°C.

Over an icy lake that spans 6 km2, CUPRA engineers put the Born's durability to the test and drove it for 30,000 km. The goal? Guarantee “the best performance in any condition”.

CUPRA Born
CUPRA Born will be presented in early May.

The CUPRA Born, which uses the Volkswagen Group's MEB platform, like the “cousin” ID.3, also saw the Dynamic Chassis Control and the different stiffness options of the shock absorbers tested on a circuit of this frozen lake, where the interior of the track it is more polished than the exterior, thus promoting slippage.

And believe me, with rear-wheel drive, this Born also drifts from the rear…

The braking system was tested in an area that mixes asphalt and snow, so that the sensors on the four wheels are able to analyze the surface in question and provide the most stable braking possible.

CUPRA assures that its first 100% electric vehicle “successfully completed each of the more than 1000 extreme tests” that it was subjected to, but still does not reveal more details about the mechanics of the Born, whose information exists only in the field of speculation.

CUPRA Born
CUPRA Born will be able to accelerate from 0 to 50 km/h in 2.9s.

The power, maximum speed and time in acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h are still to be confirmed, but it is already known that the Born will have — at least — a version with a battery of 77 kWh of usable capacity (the total reaches the 82 kWh) which will be able to cover up to 500 km and go from 0 to… 50 km/h in 2.9s.
