Taking advantage of the fact that we have instantly published an image of the new SL 65 AMG on our facebook page, let's now find out a little more about this long-awaited return.
Mercedes unveiled, this month, at the Geneva Motor Show, the SL 63 AMG, the 8-cylinder model made a splash in the car press and few guests were unwilling to get their hands on this toy. But time doesn't stand still and the SL 63 AMG is a thing of the past. Now it's time to let the German brand's latest V12 shine, the Mercedes-Benz SL 65 AMG!
The personality of this roadster starts exactly with the engine, a 12-cylinder capable of “vomiting” 621 hp of power at 5400 rpm, while the maximum torque is around 1000 Nm at 4300 rpm. These values are enough to make any of us “dizzy” in a few seconds, but you'll get even more “dizzy” once you know it only takes 4 sec. to go from 0-100 km/h and 11.8 sec. to reach the goal of 200 km/h!
Have you got up off the ground? So let's continue… Following the same line as the SLS AMG super sports car, the use of aluminum in the bodywork contributes to a 170 kg decrease, compared to the previous version, thus getting 1,950 kg of gross weight. Due to these and other changes, fuel consumption has been reduced by around 17%, with 11.6 liters now being enough to travel 100 km/h.
As you may have noticed, the look also brings new features. In the front section there are more than many differences, the new and expressive “double blade” on the radiator grille is the most evident, but the LED lights, the chrome bumper underside, the new air intakes and the new format headlights also don't go unnoticed.
The official presentation of the SL 65 AMG is scheduled for the New York Motor Show in April. This new roadster will be launched on the German market in September, with prices starting at €236.334. We don't want to imagine how much it will cost in Portugal…
