580 hp and 285 km/h top speed. This is the new Volkswagen Trans… Boxer?!

Who says vans have to be boring? If some time ago we showed you a Ford Transit with a racing spirit, today we bring you a Volkswagen Transporter who was the target of a heart transplant.

Created by the German tuning company TH Automobile, this Volkswagen Transporter (T5) replaced the engine with which it came from the factory for a… six-cylinder boxer 3.6 l used by the Porsche 911 Turbo (997).

The power of this “professional vehicle” starts at 480 hp, delivered to the… rear wheels — of course, the boxer engine is located under the rear axle, just like in the 911, and is associated with a six-speed manual gearbox.

Volkswagen T2R.997 Transporter
The engine of this Volkswagen Transporter moved to the rear, as in its predecessors, the “Pão de Forma”, and like… the 911

The company that created this Transporter, called TH2.997 — there is also the TH2.996, which uses the block of the 996 generation of the 911 — claims that the power can be stretched up to 812 hp and can even create a version with all-wheel drive.

This particular TH2997, having received the turbos used in the 911 GT2, saw its power rise to 580 hp, which allows it to reach 285 km/h(!) — one of the other Transporters transformed by them, with the suggestive name of TH2RS, with 780 hp it reaches… 310 km/h of maximum speed!

The transformation work is extensive and in addition to placing the engine at the back, the 100 l fuel tank is now located under the front hood, for better weight distribution; the chassis and brakes are changed to handle the power of the six-cylinder boxer turbo and even the bottom is faired to improve aerodynamics (!)…

Interior with Porsche tics

While the exterior even maintains discretion, making it practically impossible to detect the Porsche genes received by Transporter, the interior is not the same. In addition to the engine, Volkswagen Transporter received from the Porsche 911 the steering wheel, the front seats, various controls for the center console and even the instrument panel.

The interior of this Volkswagen Transporter now features Porsche elements such as the steering wheel, the instrument panel and… the ignition on the left side.

If you feel like having this Volkswagen “Trans-Boxer” know that the van is on sale for 139 800 euros , this despite TH Automobile claiming that producing this copy cost more than 250 thousand euros. If you need space and you like to walk quickly then this could be the ideal solution to your problems.
