New engines, more technology and greater efficiency. These are the premises of the renewed Opel Astra 2020 (generation K) which is now arriving in Portugal.

Prices start at €24,690 — for the five-door 1.2 Turbo Astra — and €25,640 for the Astra Sports Tourer estate version with the same engine and equipment level. Diesel versions come with prices starting at €28,190 — for the five-door Astra 1.5 Turbo D.

In terms of aesthetics, the changes are very slight, but they allow the Opel Astra 2020 to update itself against the competition. Inside, the novelties follow the same philosophy of continuity. In terms of equipment, the Opel Astra 2020 range now comprises three levels: Business Edition, GS Line and Ultimate.

The good news is that, regardless of the level of equipment chosen, all Opel Astra 2020s are equipped with light/rain sensors, power windows, central locking, air conditioning, IntelliLink Multimedia radio compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, cruise control, parking sensors, electric and heated exterior mirrors, alloy wheels, among others.

Engines are all new

Although Opel now belongs to the PSA Group, the engines of the Opel Astra 2020 still belong to GM. In other words, the engines we found in the Opel Astra 2020 are not the same ones we found, for example, in the Peugeot 308.

At the rear, the news is pretty tenuous.

Therefore, the new petrol engines of the Opel Astra 2020 now have a displacement of 1.2 and 1.4 l, with 130 hp and 145 hp of power and maximum torque values ​​of 195 to 236 Nm, respectively. It should be noted that the new 130 hp 1.2 Turbo emits 21% less CO2 than the previous comparable model, for which consumption averages of 4.3 l/100 km (NEDC cycle) and 99g/km of fuel are now announced. CO2.

OPEL ASTRA 2020 (FIRST CONTACT)

The turbodiesel engines of the new Astra are tuned for the same efficiency bent of the gasoline engines, announced in the version 1.5 Turbo D with 122 hp, with less than 100 g/km of CO2. These three-cylinder diesel engines, with an aluminum block and head and balance shaft, feature a variable geometry turbine and the latest exhaust gas treatment systems. For this diesel engine, Opel announces averages of 3.5 l/100 km and 92g/km of CO2 (NEDC).
