Developed based on the MQB-A0 platform, the Volkswagen Nivus it is the latest member of Volkswagen's already extensive SUV family.

Designed in Brazil, Volkswagen's new SUV “Coupé” will initially be available in Latin American markets, however, this does not mean that it is intended only for that region.

According to the Germans from Auto Motor und Sport, from mid 2021 onwards, the Nivus should also start to be produced in Pamplona, Spain, alongside the Polo and T-Cross, reaching the European market at the end of 2021/early 2022.

At the front, the similarities to the T-Cross are evident.

The question arises as to whether the model's name remains, with the German publication advancing the possibility of it being exchanged for the T-Sport designation in Europe, to better fit in with the “brothers” T-Cross and T -Roc.

The Volkswagen Nivus

At 4266 mm long, 2566 mm wheelbase, 1757 mm wide and 1493 mm high, the Nivus is longer and shorter than the T-Cross, and even (slightly) surpasses the T-Roc in length, though to be narrower.

This allows you to offer a luggage compartment with 415 liters of capacity. Inside, the look is similar to that of the Polo and T-Cross, highlighting the 10” infotainment system screen and the possibility of equipping the Nivus with a 10” digital instrument panel.

Despite the similarities with its European “brothers”, for now, the Volkswagen Nivus uses an infotainment system developed in Brazil and called VW Play. The Nivus is also equipped with equipment such as the fatigue detector, Hill Assist, adaptive cruise control and autonomous emergency braking.

The mechanics of Nivus

Finally, as far as the engine is concerned, the Nivus uses a specific propeller for the South American market, a 1.0 l turbo with three cylinders called 200 TSI. With 128 hp and 200 Nm when fueled by ethanol, this engine sends power to the front wheels through a six-speed automatic transmission.

If marketed in Europe, the most likely is that the Volkswagen Nivus will share mechanics with the T-Cross and Polo.
