The first novelties of the new generation of Skyactiv engines begin to appear.

As Mazda CEO Masamichi Kogai had already hinted, one of the main priorities for the Japanese brand is compliance with emission regulations and efficiency in consumption.

As such, one of the new features of the next generation (2nd) Skyactiv engines is the implementation of Homogeneous Charge Compression Ignition (HCCI) technology in gasoline engines, replacing traditional spark plugs. This process, similar to that of diesel engines, is based on the compression of a mixture of gasoline and air in the cylinder, which according to the brand will make the engine up to 30% more efficient.

AUTOPEDIA: When do I have to replace the spark plugs on the engine?

This technology had already been tested by several brands of General Motors and Daimler, but without success. If confirmed, the new engines are expected to debut sometime in 2018 in the next generation Mazda3 and will be gradually rolled out in the rest of the Mazda range. As for electric motors, it is almost certain that we will have news until 2019.
