After confirming entry into the European market this summer, starting in the UK, Germany and Switzerland, Genesis — Hyundai's premium brand — has just unveiled its first model designed with the European customer in mind: the G70 Shooting Brake.
Developed on the basis of the current G70, the new Genesis G70 Shooting Brake will be the main protagonist of the brand's entry into Europe and arrives with the "target" aimed at the "heavyweights" of the segment, such as the Audi A4 Avant, Mercedes-Benz Class C and BMW 3 Series.
This Genesis G70 Shooting Brake maintains its commitment to the “Athletic Elegance” style language and, given its base model, the G70, stands out for its distinct rear section, the result of a bodywork typology that reinforces the familiar attributes of this one. model.
According to the South Korean manufacturer, this bet is explained by the fact that this type of bodywork — that of vans — is deeply rooted in the history of the European car, especially within the premium segment.
In profile, the changes are quite significant. This van maintains the elegance that characterizes the G70 sedan, but the originality is in the treatment given to the rear volume. Instead of extending the lateral glazing area towards the rear, as we see in more conventionally designed rivals, the G70 Shooting Brake uninterruptedly extends the rear window that “invades” the side.
The profile of this proposal turns out to be unique among other vans, even those that adopted the designation "shooting brake", with this variant of the G70 visually closer to the original "shooting brakes" of the past, which were normally derived from of coupés.
Finally, at the rear, and in addition to the spoiler that helps to extend the roofline and the generous exhaust outlets, there are the divided optical groups and the discreet air diffuser in the center.
Moving on to the cabin, there are no big surprises compared to the G70 saloon, but this interior does not disappoint, with the onboard environment “breathing” luxury and comfort and giving a feeling of quality.
The new Genesis G70 Shooting Brake will be the fifth model from the South Korean brand to reach the European market, but no prices or sales date have yet been announced.
