After a year ago there was a rumor that Volkswagen was developing a 10-speed DSG gearbox, now comes confirmation that it will be produced.

Volkswagen's head of research and development, Heinz-Jakob Neusser, said at the Automotive Engineering Symposium in Vienna this May that the brand plans to introduce a new 10-speed dual-clutch gearbox (DSG).

The new 10-speed DSG will replace the current 6-speed DSG used in the Volkswagen Group's most powerful ranges. This new DSG also has the particularity of supporting drive blocks with torques up to 536.9Nm (one of the main limitations of the first generations of DSG boxes).

According to Volkswagen, it is not just a matter of following a general trend in the sector, the new 10-relationship DSG will be of crucial importance in terms of reducing CO2 emissions and increasing the efficiency of the drive blocks, with gains of 15% in models produced by 2020.

But the news is not just for the new transmission, it seems that the EA288 2.0TDI block, which currently presents itself in its most powerful version with 184 horsepower, will also be subject to modifications, with the power growing up to 236 horsepower, already with the focus on its introduction in the new generation of the Volkswagen Passat.
