The new Audi A3 range now has the 5-door version, once again called the Sportback. More space and greater versatility are the promises that the ring brand makes to potential customers interested in this compact family member.
The house of Ingolstadt has just presented the details and photos of the 2013 version of the Audi A3 Sportback, a week away from its official presentation at the Paris Motor Show. Compared to the 3-door version, this new 5-door version is 73mm longer, and has a 35mm longer wheelbase, making 2636mm. Therefore, 58mm longer than the version that now ceases to function. As a result of this exterior growth, the interior quotas also increased. Without quantifying the gain in legroom, Audi guarantees that the difference is substance. Cargo capacity has also increased, by 15 liters, now standing at a rather generous 38o liters of capacity. A figure that increases to 1220 liters by folding the rear seats.
Compared to the model that now ceases to function, Audi announces a weight loss of over 90kg, thanks to the adoption of the MQB platform. However, compared to its three-door brother, as a result of the increase in dimensions, Audi announces an increase of 30kg, for a total of 1205kg.
In engines, there will be nothing new. The engines available in the Sportback version will be the same ones we already know from the 3-door A3. That is, the 1.4 and 1.8 liter TFSI fueled by petrol, and the 2.0 liter TDI by diesel.
In a second phase, Audi is considering however, the introduction of a 1.2 liter TFSI version of 105hp and 175Nm of maximum torque. Which could eventually make this Audi A3 the most affordable generation ever. Signs of the Times…
