We saw it as a prototype at the last Wörthersee Festival, and predictably, we now know it as a production model. The new Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR it is the ultimate evolution of the GTI and the ideal farewell to this generation of the iconic hot hatch.
Inspired by the competitive Golf GTI TCR, a two-time winner of the TCR International Championship, and from which it takes its name, the new Golf GTI TCR adds more muscle to the GTI we already knew.
That's 45 hp more than the Golf GTI Performance, that is, the 2.0 l turbo starts to deliver 290 hp — setback to the Golf R —, transmitted to the front wheels through a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox (DSG).
Of course, the benefits would have to be higher. The 290 hp can launch the Golf GTI TCR up to 100 km/h in 5.6s (less 0.6s than the Performance) and reach 250 km/h top speed, which can go up to 260 km/h if we choose the right options.
Upgrades
The new Golf GTI TCR comes standard with self-locking differential, perforated brake discs, new sports seats (with a new microfiber and design) and 18-inch Belvedere forged wheels (alternatively, 18-inch Milton Keynes alloy wheels).
It also comes with black mirror covers, extended side skirts, front splitter, TCR rear spoiler, rear diffuser and TCR logo projection on the road when opening the doors. Exclusive is the new sports steering wheel in perforated leather. Like the competition car, the steering wheel has a red mark at 12pm.
But it doesn't stop there… Optionally, the new Golf GTI TCR can be customized with side panel decoration, carbon fiber mirror covers, black roof and, finally, two equipment packages.
THE first package (EUR 2350 in Germany) includes 19-inch Reifnitz wheels, accompanied by 235/35 R19 tyres; the boost from top speed to 260 km/h, a sporty version of the rear damping, and the DCC chassis control system.
THE second package , more expensive (3200 euros in Germany) is distinguished by its 19-inch Pretoria wheels with 235/35 R19 semi-slick tyres, offering the same options as found in the first package. It also offers wheel studs with additional anti-theft security.
