Mitsubishi Space Star with CVT box: is it worth it?

Anonim

The new Mitsubishi Space Star gained a younger design and new technological contents that promise to place it as one of the references in the segment.

No, this new model did not give way to a new version of the popular minivan that fell in favor of consumers, despite sharing the same name. It did come to replace the Colt, making it smaller on the outside and much bigger on the inside. It will be possible? Yes, the Japanese brand achieved that 'magic'.

Small on the outside, big on the inside

Inserted in a segment where more and more car customization can become an arduous task, Mitsubishi has simplified it. He left out the color combinations, canvas tops and endless sets of wheels for the competition, and focused on what really matters: making the new Space Star small on the outside – 3795mm long, just over a meter and a half tall and 1665mm wide – and big on the inside.

So, after all, what does 'he' have that the 'others' don't have? Five places. The Mitsubishi Space Star can carry five people. Only the Opel Karl can stand up to him in this regard.

what matters is the interior

The seats have a new format, thus ensuring better ergonomics – but for longer takes, they cause some discomfort – the soundproofing of the cabin has also been improved. Technological innovations promise to place it as one of the references in the segment, resulting from the inclusion of the MGN infotainment system (compatible with iOS and Android), KOS smart key, multi-function steering wheel, start-stop button (on the left, as if a Porsche) and various safety equipment (6 airbags, ABS and ESP). Parking sensors and rear camera for maneuvering assistance are available as an extra.

Note also the space available on board (which rivals some models in the segment above) and the excellent boot capacity of 235 liters, which can be increased by folding the rear seats.

compulsive consumer

The tested version features the 1.2 MIVEC tricylindrical engine with 80hp and 106Nm of maximum torque (the only one available on the national market) and it was found to be available and requested, not compromising in normal day-to-day traffic. Despite the brand announcing 4.3 liters at 100km, it was a value that, in mixed consumption, was impossible to reach.

The automatic continuous variation box (CVT) behaves in a decent way, but together with the available engine, this set caused the advertised consumption values to shoot up (almost) to double. The 35 liter tank robs the small townspeople a lot of autonomy, which makes us travel frequently to filling stations.

Weighing just 865kg, it has an even greater ease of driving in the city – the main focus of this model – but, on the highway, it can become a nuisance in windy conditions.

Already available in Portugal, the new Mitsubishi Space Star comes with a promotional price of 11,350 euros (five-speed manual gearbox) and 13,600 euros (CVT gearbox), both associated with the level of Intense equipment.
