Cold Start. 20 years ago, Rally de Portugal was like this

After yesterday, Baltar received the Shakedown of this year's edition of Portugal Rally , our World Rally Championship goes on the road today. In a year marked by the return (18 years later) to the central region and more precisely to Arganil, there is no lack of interest in the seventh round of the championship and for that very reason, the Automobile Reason will be there.

But while this year's edition does not go out on the road, we remember the one from 20 years ago. In a video shared by the FIA, it is possible to see the machines of yesteryear running through the sections of the Rally de Portugal and remember names like the late Colin McRae (who would win), Richard Burns or the still active Carlos Sainz and the “flying Finn” Tommi Makinen.

Among the cars were the Ford Focus WRC (with which McRae won the rally), the SEAT Cordoba WRC, Skoda Octavia WRC, Toyota Corolla WRC, Mitsubishi Lancer Evo VI WRC and Subaru Impreza WRC in an era where factory teams were much more than those that walk there today.

Rally de Portugal 1999 — here's a video to be missed.
