Derivation of the GT competition car, the Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport it is, for now, just a prototype, which, if it is actually produced, will give rise to the next rally model, for customers, of the Stuttgart brand.
However, even in order to make a more informed final decision, Porsche announces that it will enter the Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport in the German stage of the World Rally Championship, the ADAC Rallye Deutschland, in the FIA R-GT category — where it already is the Abarth 124 RGT, and even the occasional ex-911 GT3 Cup, unofficially converted.
This option, which will allow the prototype to start ahead of the participants, will thus also be a tough test for the car, in real conditions.
Romain Dumas at the wheel
The Frenchman Romain Dumas will be part of the Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport test program, as the main driver of the project, although he is supported by two other factory drivers, the Austrian Richard Lietz and the German Timo Bernhard.
The Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport is based on the GT4 we already know, which means a boxer six-cylinder, 3.8 l capacity and 385 hp, which, placed in a central position, sends power, with the help of a gearbox clutch engine (PDK) with paddles on the steering wheel, for the rear wheels only.
As it is a rally version, it also has a complete underside protection, as well as several foam elements for energy absorption, as used in WRC cars.
Frank-Steffen Walliser, Vice President of the Department of Motorsport and GT CarsWe are looking ahead to see how the rally world responds to our FIA R-GT concept car. [...] Based on the response and interest of potential customers, we will then decide, at the end of the year, whether to move towards the medium-term development of a competition car with rally specifications based on a future Porsche model.
