This armored Audi RS7 Sportback is the fastest "tank" in the world

The main goal when converting a car to an armored car is simple: to ensure that it offers the greatest possible protection to its occupants in the event of an attack. However, this objective ends up being associated with a “small” problem: a massive increase in weight that ends up being reflected in a drop in benefits.

To face this problem, the company AddArmor went to work and with a little help from the ARP preparer created what it describes as “the fastest armored vehicle in the world”, precisely the Audi RS7 Sportback that we spoke to you today.

Under the bonnet we find the RS7's familiar 4.0 biturbo V8 which, thanks to the APR Plus Stage II system, delivers a total of 771 hp and 1085 Nm of torque , values that allow this armored RS7 Sportback to reach 96 km/h (60 mph) in just 2.9s and a top speed of 325 km/h.

If not for the extra lights in the trunk, the armored RS7 Sportback was practically the same as “normal”.

Armored but (relatively) lightweight

In order not to make engine improvements hampered by the extra weight of the armor system, AddArmor decided to innovate. So, instead of the commonly used ballistic steel, they turned to polycarbonate “pods” that offer 10 times more protection than ballistic steel but weigh 60% less.

At first glance, the interior of the armored Audi RS7 Sportback is identical to that of the other RS7 Sportbacks.

In the glasses, they used a mixture of polycarbonate and ballistic glass. All this allowed for the armor to add less than 91 kg to the original weight of the RS7 Sportback , this while offering level B4 protection (ie it is capable of stopping small caliber bullets, including fire from a .44 Magnum).

The car also has pepper gas dispensers, runflat tires, 360º night chamber, gas masks, door handles capable of electrocuting, proper places to store weapons and other gadgets.

According to AddArmor, an armored RS7 Sportback starts at 182 880 euros , the shielding package is available from 24 978 euros.
