This is the Toyota Auris with rear-wheel drive and over 1000 hp Formula Drift

In fact, Aasbo's car has very little Toyota Auris — known as Corolla in the US. With the exception of the bodywork (or part of it), this Auris hides a veritable skidding monster under its clothes.

The main transformation concerns the drive shaft. The Toyota Auris is an all forward, a recipe not suitable for this type of maneuver. To become a drift machine, the solution would have to be converting it to rear-wheel drive. Built by Papadakis Racing, the next step was to give him horses, even a lot of horses.

The model features a 2.7 l 2AR-FE inline four-cylinder, which, in addition to a four-speed manual gearbox, also features a Borg Warner EFR 9174 turbocharger, larger injectors, new gas pumps and a few more attributes, to supplant the 1000 hp of power.

Not the first Formula Drift Auris

If you think you've heard of something like that, we'll tell you right away that you're not mistaken; Papadakis built something very similar, for the last North American Drift Championship, from the previous generation of Corolla/Auris.

However, for this new evolution, the team didn't just apply the new bodywork on the old platform and rear propulsion system. On the contrary, it received a pre-production bodywork - the complete monocoque -, to which the powertrain was transplanted, and which forced it to design a new conversion kit for a wider bodywork from scratch, which ended up giving the model the image that have in the photographs.

The fact that Fredric Aasbo started the North American Drift Championship, taking his Toyota Auris, to victory, in the opening stage, played in Long Beach, is rewarded for the work done, which lasted only three months.
