You Land Rover Discovery Sport it's the Range Rover Evoque have been “freshened” — 21 MY (Model Year) — have gained new powertrains and versions, being one of the many changes we're seeing on the Jaguar Land Rover.

As of September 10, Thierry Bolloré (coming from Renault) will assume the executive leadership, replacing the German Ralf Speth. A change that comes in difficult times. Even before the COVID-19 crisis, things were not as good as before at the British manufacturer, with sales declining and layoffs growing.

Despite the turning point caused by the pandemic, business does not stop and competition does not sleep. It is therefore time to update both the Land Rover Discovery Sport and the compact best seller Range Rover Evoque.

new engines

The highlight goes to the new engines. Just recently, we've seen both models receive the P300e plug-in hybrid versions, with a combined maximum power of 309 hp and a pure electric range of up to 62 km in Discovery Sport and 66 km in Evoque.

Now they see their mechanical arguments renewed with updated Ingenium Diesel units with 2.0 l capacity and with mild-hybrid 48 V systems, which replace the previous D150 and D180. So we have the new and most powerful D165 and D200 with, respectively, 163 hp and 204 hp.

Consumption varies between the 5.0 l/100 km of the D165 with front-wheel drive and manual transmission (six speeds) in the Range Rover Evoque, and the 7.3 l/100 km of the D200 with four-wheel drive and automatic transmission (nine speeds) of the Land Rover Discovery Sport.

On the gasoline side, the Range Rover Evoque gets a new entry-level version, the P160 . The name translates to a turbocharged three-cylinder petrol engine, with 1.5 l — the same used in the plug-in hybrid versions — with 160 hp of power and 260 Nm of torque. The P160 is also a mild-hybrid 48V.

This new tri-cylinder guarantees 37 kg less (and all of them on the front axle) compared to the four cylinders from which it derives. It is exclusively associated not only with the Evoque, but also with an eight-speed automatic transmission and two drive wheels. The 160 hp guarantees about 10.3s at 0-100 km/h and 199 km/h of top speed, with consumptions of 8.0-8.3 l/100 km and CO2 emissions of 180-188 g/km.

The remaining petrol engines remain: P200, P250 and P300. All derived from the 2.0 l tetra-cylindrical and all also equipped with the 48 V mild-hybrid system.

Furthermore, Pivi Pro manages to integrate our customs and preferences, even automating the activation of some of our preferences. For example, are you constantly turning on the heating on your steering wheel? The Pivi Pro “learns” and on the next occasion you can turn on the steering wheel heating for you.
