Fiat Toro. An alternative to SUVs we don't have in Europe

After a few weeks ago we brought you to Hyundai Santa Cruz, today we are talking about another unibody pickup truck that we cannot buy in Europe: the Fiat Toro.

“Big sister” of our well-known Fiat Strada, Toro is not a newcomer to the market. Originally launched in 2016, it has enjoyed huge commercial success in Brazil, and has now been restyled.

Based on the Fiat 500X and Jeep Renegade platform, Fiat Toro was developed by Centro Stile Fiat Brasil and is only sold in South America.

The tailgate has an unconventional opening.

What has changed?

With 4915 mm in length and 1844 mm in width, Fiat Toro has generous dimensions, but closer to an SUV than the stringer and crossbar pick-up trucks we are used to like the Toyota Hilux or the Ford Ranger.

Compared to Toro launched in 2016, the 2022 version comes with an updated front where the new grille (inspired by the one used by Strada) and new LED headlights stand out. In addition, the pick-up also received new wheels.

Inside, Fiat Toro has a screen (optional) for the infotainment system with 10.1” (in the more accessible versions it measures 7″ or 8.4”) and a 7” digital instrument panel.

Finally, under the hood, Toro now has a 1.3 l petrol/ethanol turbo with 185 hp and 270 Nm that exclusively sends power to the front wheels through an automatic six-speed gearbox. This is joined by the well-known 2.0 Turbo Diesel of 170 hp and 350 Nm in all-wheel drive versions, which is associated with an automatic gearbox with nine ratios.

Already available in Brazil, would Fiat Toro be an interesting alternative to some SUVs in the European market?
