With dimensions very close to those of Taycan, the future of the Porsche Panamera when the current generation comes to an end (possibly in 2024).

Well, aware of the rumors that the Panamera may not have a successor, Porsche CEO Oliver Blume decided to talk about the model's fate.

Thus, regarding the possibility of having a third generation Panamera, already 100% electric, in parallel with the Taycan, Blume stated: “I think it could work, they are in different segments. Panamera is one step above Taycan”.

Porsche Taycan Cross Tour
Taycan Cross Turismo walks close to the “territories” of Panamera Sport Turismo, even so, the second seems to have a future.

It is necessary to differentiate

Despite assuming that there could be a third generation Porsche Panamera, the Porsche CEO stressed that it will be necessary to ensure that the Panamera and Taycan will be sufficiently different from each other, all to prevent them from competing with each other.

On this subject, Blume assumed: “This is the challenge for these products (…) to achieve the greatest possible differentiation between them and ensure that they are different from the competition”.

As for differentiation from competitors, according to Blume, the bet is based on five points: “high quality, typical Porsche design, typical Porsche performance, fast charging and the driving experience”.

Bearing in mind Porsche's goal of ensuring that by 2030, 80% of its sales are ensured by electrified models — with the remaining 20% to be filled with combustion engine models — we wouldn't be surprised if the Panamera also became exclusively electric, using the PPE platform, developed in conjunction with Audi and which will be debuted on the new 100% electric Macan.
