After a few weeks ago we revealed you which were the best-selling brands in Portugal last year, today we bring you the 10 best-selling cars in our country in 2020.
In a year marked by the Covid-19 pandemic and in which the national car market fell by 33.9%, Renault and Peugeot stand out in the Top 10 in sales, with three and two models respectively. Also with two models among the top 10 we find Fiat. Interestingly, despite this double presence of its models among the Top 10 in sales, the Italian brand was ranked sixth among the best sellers.
These are the 10 best-selling cars on the national market in 2020, in descending order.
10. Fiat Tipo (-54.5% compared to 2019)
The Fiat Tipo managed to be the 10th best-selling model in Portugal in 2020. The model was renewed for 2021 and won a Cross version — will it mean a higher position this year?

9. Fiat 500 (-37.6% compared to 2019)
With a 100% electric version now hitting the market, last year the “normal” Fiat 500 continued to accumulate sales.
8. Renault Mégane (-46.3% compared to 2019)
In the year it received a plug-in hybrid variant, the Mégane was the 8th best-selling model in the Portuguese market.
7. BMW 1 Series (-2.9% compared to 2019)
The first premium model in the Top 10 of national sales, the BMW 1 Series was also one of the ones that lost the least sales compared to 2019, something that is not unrelated to the fact that this was the first full year of commercialization of the new generation.
6. Citroën C3 (-41.1% compared to 2019)
In a year in which the Citroën C3 was renewed, it continued to meet the preferences of many Portuguese.
5. Peugeot 208 (-31.1% compared to 2019)
In the first full year of marketing the new generation, the Peugeot 208 managed to be the fifth best-selling model in our market.
4. Renault Captur (-42.8% compared to 2019)
In the year in which it received an unprecedented plug-in hybrid variant, the Renault Captur ranked fourth in the sales chart.
3. Peugeot 2008 (-4% compared to 2019)
If there was any doubt about the success of the SUV, the Peugeot 2008 demonstrates it across the board, managing to sell more in 2020 than its “brother”, the 208. .
2. Mercedes-Benz Class A (-23.7% compared to 2019)
With second place among the best-selling models in Portugal in 2020, the A-Class is mainly responsible for Mercedes-Benz's third place among the best-selling brands last year.
1. Renault Clio (-25.4% compared to 2019)
The Renault Clio continues its success story in our country, having been the best-selling model in our country in 2020.
