Like the Tweel, the Uptis (whose name stands for Unique Puncture-proof Tire System) is not only immune to punctures but also to bursting. According to Eric Vinesse, Director of Research and Development at the Michelin Group, Uptis proves that “Michelin's vision for a future of sustainable mobility is clearly a dream achievable”.
At the base of the development of this tire is the work that had already given rise to the Tweel, with the Uptis consisting of a "unique structure that joins a rubber, aluminum and resin component, as well as high technology (not specified)" that allow this to be, at the same time, extremely light and resistant.
Uptis also benefits the environment
In the development process of Uptis, Michelin counts on GM as a partner. Thanks to this, the innovative tire is already being tested on some Chevrolet Bolt EVs, and, at the end of the year, the first tests on the open road should begin with a fleet of Bolt EVs equipped with Uptis, circulating in the northern state. -American from Michigan.
