THE Opel Astra , generation K, launched in 2015, received a necessary update, focused on technological content and, above all, on the adoption of new engines and transmissions — you'll need a lynx's eye to detect the differences in the exterior and interior.
The new engines, all three-cylinder in-line, gasoline and diesel, are already compliant with the Euro6D anti-emissions standard, which will come into force in early 2020. Interestingly, these engines are not from PSA, but from Opel. The reason lies not only in the fact that their development began before the acquisition of Opel by the French group, but also because of the incompatibility between the PSA and Astra engines.

In addition to the engines, as mentioned above, there are also technological innovations, including the introduction of new front and rear cameras, more powerful and with better definition, with the front starting to detect pedestrians, as well as vehicles.

It now has a digital dashboard, and it also received new infotainment systems: Multimedia Radio, Multimedia Navi and Multimedia Navi Pro — all of which are compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. At the top of the range, Multimedia Navi Pro, the screen is 8″, just like the Insignia.
Inside, it is most likely that the fully digital instrument panel, the Pure Panel, will make its presence felt.
The mobile phone induction charging becomes part of the possible equipment, as well as a BOSE sound system, with seven speakers and a subwoofer. For winter (still far away), the windshield can also be heated.
Range for Portugal
As was the case until now, the Opel Astra continues to be available in two five-door bodies, car and van, or in Opel parlance, Sports Tourer; three engines, two gasoline and one diesel; and three transmissions, six-speed manual transmission, continuous variation (CVT) and automatic (torque converter) with nine speeds.
It is also multiplied by three equipment levels, namely: Business Edition, GS Line and Ultimate.
All engines are three-cylinder in-line, and all use a turbocharger. On the gasoline side we have a 1.2 Turbo with 130 hp at 5500 rpm and 225 Nm between 2000-3500 rpm (CO2 consumption and emissions: 5.6-5.2 l/100 km and 128-119 g/km) and one 1.4 145hp turbo available between 5000-6000 rpm and 236 Nm between 1500-3500 rpm (CO2 consumption and emissions: 6.2-5.8 l/100 km and 142-133 g/km).
The 1.2 Turbo only comes with the manual gearbox, while the 1.4 Turbo comes exclusively with the CVT, which allows blocking its action in seven steps, simulating the ratios of a conventional gearbox.
The only diesel engine available is the 1.5 Turbo D, with 122 hp at 3500 rpm and 300 Nm available between 1750-2500 rpm , when equipped with manual gearbox (fuel consumption and CO2 emissions: 4.8-4.5 l/100 km and 127-119 g/km ). If we opt for the nine-speed automatic transmission, the maximum torque is reduced to the 285 Nm available between 1500-2750 rpm (CO2 consumption and emissions: 5.6-5.2 l/100 km and 147-138 g/km).
Prices
Orders start for the week, with the first deliveries taking place, predictably, in November.
The most affordable Opel Astra is the 1.2 Turbo Business Edition, with prices starting at €24,690 , with the corresponding diesel version starting at €28,190 . The Opel Astra Sports Tourer has prices starting at €25,640 for the 1.2 Turbo Business Edition , and 29 140 euros for the most affordable Diesel, the 1.5 Turbo D Business Edition.
