Cold Start. See the ad where the Renault 9 Turbo jumped into a ferry

In 1988, the Renault 9, like its “brother” 11, was practically on its way out — the successor, the Renault 19 would be known in that same year — but in Portugal, the bolder version of the small family member, the Renault 9 Turbo , would be the protagonist of an advertising campaign for the small French family.

In this 100% national campaign, the Renault 9 Turbo finds itself in a series of situations where its performance and agility are put to the test, whether “against” motorcycles or even a helicopter.

A start to “burn a tire”, skidding and even a jump into a ferry, reinforced by the narration showing the dynamism of the model, is even a case of saying “car advertisements are no longer made like before”. It certainly wouldn't be possible to make an announcement like this nowadays.

The video, in addition to the advertisement, is enriched with long minutes of behind-the-scenes footage, without narration, in which we get a glimpse of the painstaking work needed to get a final result of just over 40 seconds of film.

As a curiosity, the ferry to which the Renault 9 Turbo jumps is “Monte Pragal”, built in 1946 in Antwerp, entering service in Portugal in 1959 until 2004. It would be dismantled in 2007.
